Lewis Hamilton could reportedly link up with Adrian Newey next season with the outgoing Red Bull designer said to have already decided his future. Newey has spent the last two decades at Red Bull but will take on a new challenge when he leaves the reigning champions in early 2025.
Newey has been heavily linked with a move to Ferrari, who have tried and failed to secure his services on a number of occasions. Aston Martin are known to have already made Newey an offer but it has been reported that he is not interested in joining them.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s Emiliaa. Romagna Grand Prix, the 65-year-old revealed that he expects to join another team rather than retire when he leaves Red Bull next year. He admitted that he was ‘seriously considering changing teams, going somewhere else and doing another four or five years or whatever’.
Newey added: “I feel a little bit tired at the moment, but at some point I’ll probably go again.”
Allison: Mercedes departures are ‘normal’ part of F1
Mercedes’ technical chief James Allison has claimed that the recent departures from the team are ‘normal’ parts of running an F1 team.
The Silver Arrows have waved goodbye to Gioacchino Vino, as well as Jerome d’Ambrosio and Loic Serra. The latter pair have both joined forces with Ferrari after spells at Brackley.
“I think it’s more in the normal ebb and flow of an F1 team,” Allison explained. “The teams are big these days. And in any given year you are shipping out a whole bunch of people and shipping in a matching number. That will be true in nearly every team.”
He later added: “I don’t think there’s any point in me offering a commentary on motivation.
“Clearly, a team needs to have a critical mass of experienced and good people. And we would not wish to see experienced good people leave us.
“But we also are gathering experienced and good people at a similar rate. So I guess it’s our job to try and make sure we act in such a way as everybody would rather be with us than anywhere else.”
