A vital report:LIV Golf caddie hit by bottle thrown by fan and knocked down on green

LIV Golf caddie Nick Pugh was struck on the head by a bottle thrown from the crowd, during the breakaway league’s event in Adelaide on Saturday. The incident occurred after Australian golfer Lucas Herbert, who is competing on home turf this week, made a birdie at the par-three 12th hole, known as the ‘Watering Hole’.

Following his impressive six-foot tee shot and subsequent birdie, fans celebrated by throwing bottles onto the green, a custom that has gained popularity at The Grange’s 12th hole since last year’s inaugural event. However, the festivities took an ugly turn when one spectator went too far, hitting Pugh with a bottle, which resulted in him falling while clutching his head.

The jovial atmosphere soured instantly, with Herbert’s playing partner Branden Grace giving a disapproving glare towards the area from where the bottle originated. Herbert later relayed to the Sydney Morning Herald that Pugh was fortunately unharmed following the incident, saying: “I was worried about him to begin with, but he’s good now.

“He’s good and he took it really well. He could have been a lot more upset with it, but he took it really well.” He went on: “It’s probably difficult to request someone who has had 15 beers to aim a water bottle away from someone. That’s maybe asking too much.
