2024 Valero Texas Open: Top 10 power rankings at TPC San Antonio…

A power ranking of the top 10 golfers heading into the 2024 Valero Texas Open, a PGA Tour event at TPC San Antonio’s Oaks Course in San Antonio, Texas.

The PGA Tour finishes its Texas two-step this week at the Valero Texas Open.

The golf world shifts its gaze south from Houston to San Antonio.

TPC San Antonioโ€™s Oaks Course is the site of the 102nd edition of the Texas Open. Itโ€™s been here since 2010.

Despite LIV Golfโ€™s Greg Normanโ€™s decades-long feud with the PGA Tour, several of his designs still litter the PGA Tour schedule. The Oaks Course is one of them.

Itโ€™s a par-72 currently measuring just shy of 7,500 yards. Bermuda grass with rye overseed composes the fairways and rough. Poa trivialis and velvet bentgrass are on the greens.

The courseโ€™s main defense is the usual windy conditions predominant here and throughout Texas. Thereโ€™s room for off-line tee shots and approaches, but going too far astray can lead to native areas and big numbers. Just ask Kevin Na.

Length isnโ€™t a prerequisite to win, but it can give a player an advantage on the par-5s where three play over 590 yards on the card.

Forecasted weather for the week is standard fare for the Texas Open. Temperatures expect to be in the 60s-80s Fahrenheit with winds in the teens miles per hour and a slight chance of rain each day.

The 156-player field is surprisingly strong this week. Four of the top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking are present, as well as 22 of the top 25.

Iโ€™ll do my best to whittle down the 10 best clicks to pick in this weekโ€™s power rankings:
