With the absence of Jordan Travis and Trey Benson, Jared Verse, Johnny Wilson, Keon Coleman, Jaheim Bell, Kalen Deloach and others headed to the NFL, next season’s roster will look very different.

   To fill those spots, Norvell turned to Clemson quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei and five other players are on Alabama’s roster. The FSU team that played in the Orange Bowl didn’t have much success, so Norvell did a lot to rethink the team.

Like I said, Keon Coleman, Johnny Wilson, Jaheim Bell and Trey Benson are all headed to the NFL. That means FSU’s offense is missing 150 catches, 2,005 yards and 16 touchdowns from just those four players. Among the candidates to fill these spots in the offense are senior Ja’Khi Douglas, senior Kentron Poitier and senior Darion Williamson.

Norvell also brought in LSU’s Jalen Brown and Alabama’s Malik Benson to compete for outside tackles. It’s a talented group, but no one player stands out. That means Williamson could see a career-high 168 cracks in 2023, but based on what he showed last year, it’s doubtful.

   Williamson was caught 20 times last season but only completed nine passes for 127 yards and one touchdown. Although he was eighth on the team in scoring, he was third on the team in 3-pointers and missed one of his five shots. He carried the workload in the Orange Bowl against Georgia with 23 tackles and seven scores, but couldn’t help Brock Glenn with just two catches for 38 yards.

At 6-foot-3 with good speed, Williamson is considered an outside threat, and five of his 20 catches went more than 20 yards down the field, but he also didn’t hang onto someone..
