Three young Phillies players received high salaries through MLBand’s pre-arbitration money pool. Bryson Stott earned an additional $628,380, Brandon Marsh earned $530,749 and Christopher Sanchez earned $279,152, according to the Associated Press. The pre-arbitration bonus pool, a new component of MLBand’s current collective bargaining agreement, includes $50 million to be distributed among the top 100 players with less than three years of service.

Players are awarded for finishing first or second in Rookie of the Year voting, in the top five for the MVP or Cy Young award, or first or second on the All-MLB team. With the bonuses, Stott, Marsh and Sanchez will earn about $730,000 in 2023, but that will increase to $1.36 million, $1.27 million and $1 million, respectively. Stott excelled both offensively and defensively in 2023, his second season as a major league catcher. He hit .234/.295/.358 as a rookie, but hit .280/.329/.419.
He knew how to manage the pace better, especially in the upper part of the zone. He led the major leagues with 82 two-hit hits. He was one of three National League shortstops at second base after moving from shortstop when Trey Turner arrived.
