Christian Horner’s team achieved their 20th win of the season at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, surpassing a record previously held by Mercedes since 2016.
After being defeated in Singapore in 2023, Red Bull lost its chance at invincibility, leading attention to shift towards the records it could still obtain.
The record for the most wins by a team in a single season was set at 19 out of 21 races by Mercedes with the W07 in 2016.
It only missed out on winning two races that year: the first was in Spain, where Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg had a famous crash on Lap 1, and the second was in Malaysia, when Hamilton’s engine failed. Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo each secured a victory for Red Bull.
Verstappen’s win in Las Vegas marked the team’s 20th victory of the year. Despite the increase in the number of races in modern Formula 1 compared to 20 years ago, when there were only 16, each race still presents a challenge that must be conquered.
Red Bull has an impressive record of 20 wins out of 21 races leading into the Abu Dhabi finale. The team has won the last three races at the Abu Dhabi track, giving them a win percentage of 95.23%. If it is victorious in Abu Dhabi, it will reach 95.45%.
In 2016, Mercedes set a record with 765, which Red Bull fell just short of in 2022 with 759.
