Minnesota acquired Akers from the Rams earlier this season in a late-round pick swap and he had rushed for 29 yards in 22 carries during his previous three appearances.

For this season in total, Akers recorded 142 yards on 52 attempts and eight receptions for 57 yards before Sunday’s game.

Injury analysts Sports Injury Central believes the tear occurred to Akers’ left Achilles when he quickly planted his foot while trying to avoid a tackle attempt after hauling a short pass, when there appeared to be a reverberation through his calf.

If the Achilles injury did indeed occur it would be the second one for the Vikings offense in recent weeks, after starting quarterback Kirk Cousins suffered the same problem against the Green Bay Packers last week.

The Vikings were also forced to give newly acquired QB Josh Dobbs his debut after rookie starter Jaren Hall suffered a concussion in the first quarter.

Dobbs threw two touchdown passes, including a go-ahead 6-yarder to Brandon Powell with 22 seconds remaining, and also ran for a score five days after being acquired in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday.
